  • Title: A history of Britain and e-sports
  • Date: October, 2008

The e-sports award is the most prestigious accolade available in e-sports. The award is designed to give the athletes, teams, journalists and developers involved with e-sports proper recognition for their work and sportsmanship. Only the best of the best are honoured with the prize.

This guarantees that the cream of the crop in e-sports personalities attend. Combined with the presence of main sponsors Intel, world's largest manufacturer of microprocessors, the relevance of the e-sports awards cannot be over-stated. Legends like team SK Gaming, Dutch hotshot player Sander 'vo0' Kaasjager and gaming legend Johnathan 'Fatal1ty' Wendel are just a few examples of e-sports award winners. In the face of all this European talent, the UK always features strongly when it comes to nominees and winners.

British coverage website esreality.com, for example, was nominated four years in a row for Best E-sports Coverage. The major British clan 4Kings was nominated three times for Best E-sports Team and won the award in 2005. Yoan 'ToD' Merlo and Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen, both former 4Kings players, look like they will also win awards for Best Warcraft 3 Player and Best E-sports Player more than once. Over the years, they have been nominated for several others as well.

To date, fourteen players, teams or e-sports activists with British connections have been nominated for e-sports awards. The UK is also strongly represented in the e-sports award academy that votes on winners, with distinguished individuals like Sujoy Roy, editor-in-chief of esreality.com, and Sam 'zr0' Matthews, British Manager of fnatic.

Thanks to the excellent support of Intel and the unique atmosphere of the Games Convention, the e-sports awards will always be an event to catch. And British gamers look sure to have plenty to cheer about in the years to come.
