Include this elegant Intel-branded hang glider in your level – but be inventive!
Intel® Far Cry 2* mapping contest ‘09
WIN an extreme gamer’s rig’
Time to level with you
If you’ve played Ubisoft’s action shooter, Far Cry 2*, chances are you’ve spent a lot of time pretending to blow things up. Well now you have an opportunity use the game’s level editing software to pretend to build something that other people can blow up! And if you do a good enough job, you will win a ridiculously high-specced rig built around the latest Intel® Core™ i7 processor. How cool is that?
Yes, Intel Game On – in association with Ubisoft – is running a Far Cry 2 map-making competition. So it’s time to roll up your sleeves and delve into that incredibly powerful level-editing tool that came with your copy of the game.
How the competition works
You’ve got until 26/04/09 to build a palm-sweatingly perfect single-player or multiplayer Far Cry 2* level. Read Map Requirements below.
You then submit your masterpiece to the guys who’ll be hosting the maps at http://infarcry.com/mapping-competition/. As well as being hosted there, submitted maps will also be made available on Ubisoft and community Far Cry 2 servers. FC2 players will be able to download, play and vote for their favourite submissions. Voting will continue until 10/05/09.
A panel of judges from Ubisoft, Intel and infarcry.com will then review the top twelve. They will decide upon the third and second place runners-up, as well as the overall winner. Their decision will be final. It will be announced on 25/05/09 here at Game On and on infarcry.com.
What you can win
All the top twelve mapmakers will win a copy of Tom Clancy’s HAWX *on the PC.
Third and second place winners will also receive a Far Cry 2* Extreme Collector’s Edition, an Intel® Core™ i7 processor and a bundle of Far Cry 2 limited edition goodies.
The overall winner will get all of that, minus the Intel® Core™ i7 processor. That’s right. Instead of the processor, the winner will receive a very special, very limited edition Far Cry 2 desktop PC built around an Intel® Core™ i7 Extreme processor.
Map Requirements
Your entry can be a single-player level or a multi-player map (but remember it takes much more work to build a single-player level).
Your map must feature the special Intel hang glider. Do not modify this 3D model or its graphics in any way.
Your map can include any other assets from the Far Cry 2* level editor.
Multi-player maps must work in LAN and online modes.
Any text used must be in English.
Employees of Intel and Ubisoft may not enter this competition, nor can anyone associated with infarcry.com or Game On.
Maps entries should be uploaded to www.infarcry.com/mapping-competition/.
Each level submission should be in a complete level folder, compressed as either a .zip or .rar file.
The name of the folder should be formatted: Intel_Entrant Name.
Each submission folder must include a submission form that can be downloaded from www.infarcry.com/mapping-competition/. Entrants’ personal data will not be used for any other purpose than the judging of this competition.
Each submission folder must include a ‘Readme’ file that includes full credits for the submitted map.
Each entry must include a background description or story/mission outline in English.
Each folder submitted must include four screenshots (max: 1600*1200) and a short video of the level. Screenshots should convey a good idea of the map or level. Failure to include screenshots will result in disqualification from the competition.
What the judges are looking for
The judges will score the maps according to four criteria.
Originality and creativity
Do your own voice acting. Create a unique environment. Make your map stand out from the crowd.
The hang glider
Don’t just stick the hang glider on the map somewhere and think, “That’s that.” Find a really cool use for it, the more creative the better.
Performance
Every map will be tested with VTune™ in an Intel lab. Make sure your map or level runs smoothly.
Game play
The winning map must be fun to play. It doesn’t matter how amazing you make it look; if it isn’t fun to play, it won’t win.
And finally…
We know what the community’s like, so we’re really looking forward to your entries. Please check out the map-making video tutorials here and at www.infarcry.com, and don’t forget to read the Terms and Conditions. And good luck.
