Looking for a next-generation, first-person shooter optimised for your Intel® Core™2 Extreme? This is the game for you.
Hunting the Jackal
Far Cry® 2 is a next-generation first-person shooter. It has been developed by the award-winning Ubisoft Montreal (Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed) on their custom-built Dunia engine and is published by Ubisoft. Gamers have eagerly anticipated this follow-up to the 2004 smash hit since it was unveiled in 2007.
Dunia delivers utterly convincing destructible environments and amazing special effects, such as dynamic fire propagation and storm effects, real-time night and day cycle, dynamic music and non-scripted AI.
The developers’ hard work was clear to see earlier this year when the game was demonstrated at the Game Designers Conference in San Francisco. Now the time has come for the rest of us to immerse ourselves in its awesome beauty.
The story goes like this. Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, your mission is to seek out and eliminate a mysterious character known as ‘the Jackal’. The Jackal is responsible for having rekindled the conflict between the two rival warlords. To fulfill your objectives, you will have to play the two sides against each other, exploit their weaknesses and neutralise their superior firepower, using cunning, surprise, subversion and brute force.
As you would expect, a game like this features an arsenal of interesting weapons. In addition to the predictable but essential machine gun and sniper’s rifle, there’s also a flamethrower and even a machete. Modes of transport are equally varied, with options that include cars, trucks, boats, and a hang glider.
Such is the power of the Dunia engine and so extensive was the research undertaken, Far Cry® 2 gives you fifty square kilometers of seamlessly and stunningly rendered landscape to explore. Talk about ground-breaking!
From the earliest stages of development, Intel engineers worked closely with Ubisoft Montreal to make sure the Dunia engine could bring the game world fully to life by being multi-threaded. The result is the kind of game the Intel® Core™2 Extreme was made for.
Now the wait is over. It’s time to lock and load. The hunt is on.
