Finally, we come to it, comrade
Take command
Rewind to the end of the eighties. Instead of collapsing, a desperate Soviet Union advances into Europe and launches an attack on the continental United States.
Choose a side, commander. Take control of the most powerful and technologically advanced military hardware at your disposal, reinforce it with an Intel® Core™ i7 in your PC and accept your mission: end this war, one way or another.
World in Conflict: Soviet Assault* brings us more of the groundbreaking game play that made WiC E3 2007’s ‘Best Strategy Game’. By merging elements of strategy, first-person-shooter and action games, Massive has created what it calls the ‘action-strategy’ genre. They have certainly succeeded in winning over fans of all the component genres.
You can get hold of the Soviet Assault add-on in one of two formats: either a stand-alone add-on or with the original game, as part of the World in Conflict: Complete Edition. Both will be available in shops and on Steam. (Note: if you bought the retail version of WiC, you’ll need the retail version of Soviet Assault. Similarly, if you bought WiC on Steam, you should get the Steam version of the expansion.)
In Soviet Assault’s single player campaign, you can play as the Soviet army and follow the global invasion from the perspective of the motherland. Expect more Hollywood-quality voice-over performances, tense and emotional storylines and cinematic storytelling.
Of course, you’ll find more maps: six in the single player campaign and two new in multi-player (Berlin and Norway).
The game play you’ve come to expect is the same. Command units from Infantry, Armour, Support, or Air roles and engage in intense combat, focusing on tactical decisions.
For cutting-edge graphics, the latest version of Massive’s proprietary Masstech engine features advanced lighting and physics, the latest DX10 technology, and full 360-degree camera control. And your surroundings don’t just look good. Houses crumble, forests burn, terrain becomes deformed and the entire environment changes.
All this will satisfy existing WiC fans and swell their ranks with new recruits. And it’s a game designed to give a good processor a workout. So make sure you’ve got one in your inventory.
