I’m an old-school gamer and I began playing on the Atari ST/800 with games like Pac Man, Time Bandits, ThunderCats and Kickstart. My father was always into computers so I guess that’s where I got it from.
The first game we LANned up at my house (with friends and family) was Duke Nukem (Shake It, Baby), and that was the first game I really shone at. At the age of 10 I was beating all my father’s friends, and it was a buzz being a youngster owning all the adults.
Playing Duke Nukem I was soon shrinking people, standing on them, setting tripwires, laying mines and annihilating everyone with an over-powered shotgun. I was being praised for playing so well, and that made me realise that I really was good at this. From then on, I couldn’t stop playing.

Then I moved on to the game that got my career going: Quake I. Pretty soon I moved on to Quake II and an Internet connection with über-high ping, playing on the Barrysworld servers and noticing all the tournaments I could be entering. As a kid I loved beating older people and being complimented on my ability. That buzz of victory is what drove me to continue playing and trying reach the highest heights.
