Three things to take to a LAN party (aside from your kit)

Aaron Anton ‘Hell’ Jones | August 2007

I've been to dozens of LAN parties and tournaments, and I know the one thing I always need – my confidence. Without confidence you can't expect to do well at any tournament.

The next essential is… water. Sounds crazy but keeping yourself hydrated, refreshed and alert will prepare you for any game. Stimulants like energy drinks, coffee or cola will just set off those nerves you've been trying to get rid of for years. Increased sugar levels and wakefulness just put you more on edge and get you over-thinking and analyzing things.

Last but not least – personality. If you’re attending big LAN parties or competitions then it's best to showcase not just your gaming ability, but your personality also. If you’re not part of a team but would like to be, then showcase what you have to offer as a person. People like to socialise at events, so join in and meet new people who could help your game and improve your experience at parties and competitions.
